RIA Success Case: Tribiome's Innovative Microbiome Project- Empowering Resilient Food Systems.

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

In this article you will learn about the Tribiome Eu-funded consortium project, and how it is aligned with the EU Farm2Fork Strategy and the Green Deal.

The “Tribiome” project is a collaborative initiative dedicated to reshaping the landscape of food production systems in alignment with the Farm2Fork Strategy, a pivotal component of the EU's overarching Green Deal.

This Research and Innovation Action was funded by the European Commission with a substantial grant of 5 million euros. With 13 partners hailing from various countries, the Tribiome consortium is united by a shared goal: to drive transformative change within our food systems.

The Farrm2Fork Strategy aspires to establish fair, healthy, and environmentally-friendly food systems. Recognizing that sustainability is key to resilience, especially in times of crises such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the strategy calls for a comprehensive redesign of food systems. These systems currently account for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions, exert pressure on natural resources, contribute to biodiversity loss, and impact public health through nutritional imbalances.

The Tribiome project fully embraces this challenge. Anchored by an intricate understanding of soil/plant/animal and human microbiomes, Tribiome seeks to empower these interconnections to play a pivotal role in the resilience of future food production systems.

By delving deep into microbial biodiversity and its intricate interplay with plants, the project aims to develop innovative technologies that enhance plant growth, nutrient efficiency, stress tolerance, and overall food quality. This approach is not just about advancing technology; it's about revolutionizing food production and fostering sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and society.

Through a multi-actor approach that encompasses stakeholders across the entire food production chain – from farmers and consumers to industry players, investors, and policy makers – Tribiome is committed to co-creating systemic solutions.

These solutions will not only tackle immediate challenges but also drive lasting impact by addressing society's real needs. As the Tribiome project embarks on this transformative journey from 2022 until the close of 2026, it epitomizes the Farm2Fork Strategy's vision of creating a resilient, sustainable, and thriving food system for all.
